Review of Playa Guadalmar, Malaga, Spain

The province of Malaga is located on the southern coast of Spain, along the famous Costa del Sol. If you’re looking for clothing-optional fun, you’ll find plenty of opportunities in Spain.

Spain is the only country in the world where nudism is legally protected in its constitution, making it an outstanding choice for people who dislike tan lines.

If you find yourself looking for nude beaches near Malaga, Spain – Playa Guadalmar, or Guadalmar Beach (if written in English) should be at the top of your list.

Located a 10-minute drive from the Malaga airport, Playa Guadalmar is the only beach near Malaga that is explicitly designated as a “nudist beach.” While nude sunbathing is legally protected in the Spanish constitution, technically making

ALL beaches nudist beaches, there are a handful of beaches where nudism is generally accepted. Playa Guadalmar is one of those beaches, since there’s a huge sign on the beach that states it has a “ZONA NUDISTA” (nudist zone).

Situated next to the golf course, Real Club de Campo Malaga, Playa Guadalmar is incredibly easy to get to.

Set your Google Maps to 36°39’28.0″N 4°27’57.9″W or look for “Playa nudista Gudalmar” on Google Maps.

You’ll be looking for a dirt parking lot that goes to an area called “ZONA DE KITESURF MALAGA.” That’s when you’ll know you’re in the right place.

Walk onto the short boardwalk, past the shower, and turn to the right.

When you see the naked bodies sprawling down the beach… Welcome, you’ve made it to one of the nicest nudist beaches in Malaga, Playa Guadalmar.

Who Visits Playa Guadalmar: I visited Playa Guadalmar in the middle of July 2023, and it was a huge mix of people. There was a 60/40 split of men to women, with a large number of couples who were in attendance.

While there, I saw a handful of vacationing couples who you could tell were curious to walk down the nudist beach just to see what was happening. An occasional gawker would show up, walk around, and leave.

What You Should Bring to Playa Guadalmar: I highly recommend that if you’re planning on going for an extended period of time you pack water and snacks. You can buy food from Chiringuito La Traviata Playa, but it’s a LONG walk from the nudist beach.

The sand gets HOT, so bring a comfy pair of sandals to walk on the sand, or walk on the wet shore.

I also recommend that you bring an umbrella to be sure you can take breaks from the sun.

It gets quite hot in the summertime, so be sure to bring sunscreen and RE-APPLY it regularly… Especially if you haven’t exposed certain sensitive parts of your body to the sun before!

How Late is Playa Guadalmar Open? Based on the signage, it looks like the beach is open all hours. We didn’t observe any time limit, and people visit the beach at all hours.

There can be light out as late as 10pm in the summer, which means you can enjoy a full day in the sun even if you get to the beach as late as 6pm. Many people visit after their work day ends.

What’s The Vibe on Playa Guadalmar? Friendly, welcoming, kind, and relaxing! Everyone keeps to themselves. There is plenty of laughter coming from groups who were in attendance. We saw people of varying ages.

There is no age limit, and it’s not uncommon to see a few children there with their parents.

We saw many couples – both gay and heterosexual hanging out and having fun.

There are some vendors who walk up and down the shore selling snacks, water, beer and sodas. Take cash and expect to pay a premium (as you should – it gets hot!).

Overall thoughts: One of the nicest aspects of Playa Guadalmar is the fact that it was EASY to get to, was close to the city, and it didn’t require a long hike as do most nudist beaches we’ve been to.

We never felt like there were any creepers, and felt totally comfortable because there’s a big sign saying that it’s a nudist beach.

You can feel safe, comfortable, and enjoy taking in the sun in nothing but a smile when you visit Playa Guadalmar.

If you haven’t been to the southern part of Spain, I highly recommend it. It’s incredibly beautiful, and this beach trip makes it all worth it.

Getting to Malaga is easier than ever before. As of the time his blog is being published, there is a direct flight from New York City to Malaga via United Airlines, and there are tons of flights from Barcelona taking budget airlines like Ryanair and Vueling.

If you’re looking for towns to stay in, we recommend checking out Benalmadena, Torremolinos, Marbella, and of course, Malaga. There are a number of well-priced hotels and resorts in the surrounding towns that can make this trip affordable and relaxing.
